Network Firewall Administrator

 

 

A position exists in the EU network support team for a new team member to support maintain both VPN connectivity and the firewall rulebase on the European appliances.

 

 

The role

 

Currently there are greater than 150 IPSEC tunnels. This number continues to increase. The successful candidate will be responsible for

 

Liaising with the customer

Designing the VPN connectivity solution 

Implementing the VPN build 

Fault finding both new and existing VPNs 

Staging any firewall rules associated with the VPN build 

The individual may also be required to take part in firewall reviews from time to time. 

Migrating VPN tunnels from Checkpoint VPN platform to Cisco ASR based platform


 

The applicate should have the following

 

A thorough knowledge of IPSEC, and how tunnels are established

A thorough knowledge of  TCP/IP …

a) the 3-way handshake 

b) the differences between TCP and UDP

c) TCP / UDP well known ports

Knowledge of the encryption algorithms, i.e. AES, 3DES

Other component involved in the establishment of an IPSEC tunnel such as the hashing algorithm  (SHA) and Diffie-Hellman

An appreciation of best practices in terms of network security

Checkpoint and Cisco VPN knowledge is essential
