Network Design Specialist (Core)

The Network Design Specialist (GMV Core) is an essential role responsible for the end-to-end design of our Global Managed Voice core network and deployed core voice capabilities, enabling rapid deployment underpinning new products and protecting revenues in excess of £0.5B . The GMV platform provides IP based telephony communications to medium and large sized Global corporate companies, and integrates to key BT One Cloud and Contact Cloud platforms. 

You'll have the following responsibilities

• Design leadership to develop new or enhance existing GMV core capabilities with new features and improved performance to enable the Global Voice products to be class leading. This will be done via leading on Impact analysis, High & Low Level Designs, supporting existing Designs and supporting handover to Test & Build activities in relation to the network, platform and services, and its supporting environment, and taking into consideration Legal and Regulatory requirements, BT Security guidelines and Architecture conformance.

• Have expert technical domain & cloud knowledge and skills/experience and uses them in the formulation of strategy and evolution plans as well as in delivery of designs and business solutions 

• Managing and supporting the interface to technical teams outside of GMV Design, including Application development OSS design, L2C and T2R process design, Test and Implementation, Security.

• Managing peer reviews and providing sign off authority on designs associated with network components within network platforms and/or customer solutions.

• Highlighting design risks encountered. Manage resolution of risks.

• Mentoring and sharing knowledge with other designers and provide training to support operations.

 

You will also be responsible for

 

People

 

• Lead a small matrix team as appropriate across Solution and Voice Design & Development and Test to ensure they are trained and directed to design and test GMV core related deliveries appropriately

Cost

 

• Driving efficiency and cost reduction through defining Brilliant and Simple requirements to the supplier and other BT systems

Quality

 

• Ensuring rigorous and highly available solutions to underpin the highly available requirements of GMV and our VoIP services. 

Delivery

 

• Design and drive improved working processes

• Application of Design best practise to domain, and interlock with design and delivery plans across all related systems and teams.

The Network Design Specialist (GMV Core) will possess a thorough knowledge of the voice networks & applications, OSS and technologies that interact with the GMV platform, for example NOAS and Access networks. They will also have a good understanding of associated standards and industry initiatives that relate to the existing service and its evolution. Other specifics for the role include thorough knowledge of:

 

• Legacy TDM and VoIP Technologies

• Global OSS and work flow systems

• Voice NW performance monitoring systems

• Good understanding of Cross Portfolio Product provisioning, L2C and T2R processes

• Stakeholder and Vendor  Management – Ability to engage with Stakeholders and Vendors at an appropriate level to ensure necessary business results can be attained.

• Problem solving – Proven ability to solve complex problems in a controlled and systematic manner, analysing the available data to make the correct business decisions taking responsible risks when appropriate.

• Coaching and Mentoring – Experience of coaching and mentoring others for peak performance

• Financial Management – Understands overall cost to business for decisions made, has a good working knowledge of different types of budgets and inputs to business cases

• Process improvement / Management – Works across teams to identify changes to processes and procedures to enable faster delivery or better business outcomes.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to bring teams together across BT to look at business issues ranging from feasibility through to issues affecting live service.

• Desirable: Network Engineering Silver ALP and membership of a relevant professional organisation.

 

Experience you would be expected to have:

 

• Demonstrable experience within voice networks - MANDATORY

• Good knowledge on VoIP Technologies and IP networks – MANDATORY

• Thorough knowledge of ISUP and SIP signalling protocol – MANDATORY

• Good understanding of BT security policies and compliance - MANDATORY

• Good understanding of legal and regulatory requirements – MANDATORY

• Good understanding of virtualisation and software defined networks – Good to have

• Knowledge of network systems integration with their supporting OSS and BSS – Good to have
