8 West Consulting seeks a graduate Network Engineer to augment the ITS team at our offices in Cork.

This is a busy and critical role reporting to the Lead Network Engineer. Core hours of work are 9am-5pm.

Supporting a software development firm means that the candidate will be working with a very wide range of technologies across a variety of platform with a high rate of change. A candidate with the ability to adapt to new challenges on a regular basis would be a good fit for the role.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

KRA 1 – Internal end user support:

  • Provide one-on-one assistance for end-users.
  • Performing recurring support activities related to end-user workstations and software for both local and remote users.

KRA 2 – Infrastructure support:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot both local area and wide area network links, including firewall, remote access and VPN software and hardware.
  • Asset management of IT assets, including but not limited to: servers, desktops, printers, routers, switches, phones and firewalls.
  • Break-fix of both server and desktop hardware and software.
  • Perform software inventory, distribution, installation and licence management.
  • Provide technical and high-level application support of in house and cloud-based systems based on Linux and MS-Windows platforms.

KRA 2 –Business support:

  • Contribute to company business continuity planning and testing.
  • DR practice and execution.
  • Perform facilities related tasks as appropriate.
  • Adhere to and promote internal information security policies and procedures.

Desired Skills:

  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft server and workstation platforms.
  • Linux / Mac administration experience.
  • Experience of Cisco technologies.
  • Experience of Office 365 an advantage.
  • Exposure to Azure and AWS is desirable.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with external customers, supporting their needs as it pertains to 8 West projects. Customer interaction may be on site or via phone and email only.
  • Flexibility to undertake new responsibilities without consultation.

  • Provision of timely and efficient support to customers – both internal and external.
  • Effective feedback to peers and management as to status of tasks.
  • Efficient troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Demonstrated performance of pro-active tasks to improve stability of IT systems.
