Credit Operations Associate

Role Description:

The successful candidate will form part of the European Credit Operations Team and the wider Client Servicing & Implementations Department. The primarily focus of the role involves analyzing new and existing business from a Credit & Risk perspective for the merchant acquiring and payment processing arm of J.P. Morgan Europe.

We are therefore seeking a talented individual with ideally experience in Credit/Risk, Underwriting or a Compliance environment who has a strong acumen for strategic decision making based off available information.

This role requires a high degree of independent thought, analysis and crucially possessing the ability to make risk-based judgements in the interests of the department and wider firm. 

This is a fast-paced role where independent decisions must be taken quickly and actions completed in a timely manner as we strive to provide an efficient service to our clients; Both internal and external.

Key Duties:

  • Analyse new and existing merchant companies, considering financial viability vs. exposure, regarding revenue generated from merchant accounts.  Implement any necessary collateral (escrow, guarantees, letters of credits).
  • Proficient in reading credit reports, Dun & Bradstreet, & financials (balance sheet, profit & loss statements etc). 
  • Perform financial statement analysis based on key financial ratios as they apply to the merits of the subject's profile.
  • Calculate the notional risk associated with each applicant's business model and method of accepting payment instruments consistent with established procedures.
  • Conduct information gathering calls with internal & external parties to obtain an overall understanding of the financial profile and to become familiar with processing characteristics, business models and company structure.
  • Reviews business model and processing characteristics for existing merchants to ensure and report on compliance with Payment Brand rules and regulations.
  • Take part of departmental wide projects to constantly update and improve procedures and processes when necessary/required.

Skills/Experience:

Applicants for this position will ideally have a qualification in business administration, finance or a related discipline, with previous years’ experience in a Credit, Anti-Fraud or Compliance area:

  • Experience in a Credit Underwriting, Anti-Fraud or Compliance position or similar decision-making role is required.
  • Strong decision making skills
  • Basic understanding of financial statements is preferred
  • Bachelors of Science/ Bachelors of Arts in business/finance accounting related field
  • Experience within the acquiring industry may be substituted in place of credit experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high production environment performing multiple tasks is required.
  • PC skills to include ability to work in Word, Excel and Access and PowerPoint
  • Able to provide professional communication via phone, email, and in person when interacting w/ internal and external customers.
