The Job in a nutshell

This Test Engineer sits in the Three Ireland Networks Delivery & Services team, a team which is accountable for ensuring the delivery of Voice, Data, Messaging & IoT services on the Core Network. The focus of this role will be test execution and service validation for IoT customer solutions on the production network.

The position reports to the Networks Delivery & Services Manager and will be part of a virtual cross-functional team responsible for the design, deployment, and validation of all IoT solutions. The role will be responsible for the technical validation of call flows across the Packet Core & IP Network within the Three Ireland Production Network.

The position will act as a point of technical accountability for the IoT Network and will require a hands-on approach to all aspects of test delivery. This will require operating cross-functionally and at a technical level, with several business functions to ensure the smooth transition of services and solutions from design to deployment.

 The Test Engineer will be responsible for:

• Developing test strategies, plans and test specifications for the verification of packet core network call flows
• Coordinating with internal teams/customer to ensure the correct environment and tools are in place for testing (Device Configurations, Provisioning, etc.)
• Engaging cross-functionally with solution and design teams to ensure the integrity of any solution or system integrating into the production environment
• Test object list development and test execution, including test automation development activities
• Driving the integrity of test output to ensure the solution complies with operational readiness requirements

The ideal candidate will have previously worked in a test related IT / Network role with exposure to multi-vendor network environments

• Educated to degree level in an Engineering / Telecommunications discipline, or equivalent experience
• Experience working in an IT test role, desirably within a telecommunications operator, MVNO/MVNE or vendor
• Strong understanding of LTE and 3G data network architectures and associated standards
• Solid knowledge of mobile networking protocols such as Diameter, GTP-C, GTP-U, SIP, Radius, TCP, UDP, SCTP and mobile IP
• Mobile network multi-vendor experience including Ericsson and Samsung
• Knowledge of Operational and Business support systems
• Advanced troubleshooting and end to end debugging and tracing capabilities
• Excellent communication & time management skills

Nice to Have:

• Exposure to an automation testing environment an advantage
• Subscriber management or oracle database knowledge
