We are looking for a talented and experienced Technical Artist who is excited to be responsible for improving the art pipeline and empowering artists in creating outstanding features with an optimized footprint for the Star Trek Fleet Command team. You will be working closely with engineers and artists on the development of Star Trek Fleet Command, which is being developed in Unity. You will review that technical implementation of art into the game is optimal. Your role will impact the speed and quality in which teams make new features by empowering artists with improved efficiencies, tools, and pipelines.
This role is best suited for an engineer heavy technical artist with strong development skills and who enjoys working with artists in supporting the visual elements of the game. You will become part of the Technical Art Team and report directly into the Technical Director.
Responsibilities
- Train and support UI artists in implementing game art into Unity accurately, optimally and at the highest possible visual quality
- Provide hands-on support to artists and engineers in regards to asset performance and validation
- Serve as a Unity expert for the Art department during development of features
- Proactively identify and solve challenging technical issues in the asset pipeline
- Create art pipeline tools to facilitate art creation and art validation
- Constantly look for optimizations in memory usage, draw calls, polygon count, texture compression, target frame rates and other technical limitations
- Create efficient shaders for usage on ships, characters and special effects
- Author and maintain scripts and plugins for artists in their content creation applications
- Collaborate with other Scopely studios and game teams to share technology and best practices
- Expert using Unity game engine, particularly in texture optimization, asset exporting/importing, UI best practices and efficient pipeline creation
- Ability to be in charge of optimisation of content for memory and performance, while maintaining visual fidelity
- Strong in Adobe Photoshop and Maya from a pipeline perspective
- Ability to create and work with technical documentation
- Experience creating tools to improve art pipeline
- Experience creating/modifying Unity C# components in Unity
- Experience creating/modifying scripts for Maya and Photoshop
- Experience creating shaders and particles in Unity
- Must have launched at least one mobile game on Android and iOS
