Senior DBA - Mainframe Database Innovation and Operations Technical Lead

As a Technical Leader of Mainframe Database Innovation and Operations, you will lead a team and will work with other organizations in the deployment, management, and support of all mainframe Db2 for z/OS and IMS databases world-wide.  You will work closely with database vendors, infrastructure groups, other DBAs, and application teams to proactively install, monitor, manage, control, and upgrade consistently across GM’s mainframe database landscape.  You will be responsible for understanding capacity requirements, implementation of global monitoring and automation solutions, providing DBMS expertise to application teams, implementing SOX controls, measuring performance, and driving best-in-class availability across GM’s mainframe database platforms.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • 3-5 years experience leading a team or providing technical leadership
  • Minimum 7 years Information Technology experience with 5 years expertise in IMS and Db2 for z/OS
  • Expertise in Db2 for z/OS version 12 and IMS version 15
  • Extensive technical knowledge of Db2 for z/OS including: backup; recovery; reorganizations; universal table spaces; performance and tuning; application tuning; SQL tuning; SPUFI; explains; LOBs; DDF; DDL; disaster recovery; partitioning / clustering; indexing
  • Extensive technical knowledge of IMS including: backup; recovery; reorganizations; performance and tuning; application tuning; disaster recovery; DBD, PSB, ACB, and MFS generation; sparse indexing; HALDBs; Dynamic Resource Definition; DBRC, logical relationships
  • Experience in z/OS, TSO, ISPF, JCL, RACF, OMEGAMON, Endevor, IBM Z Workload Scheduler, CA-7, CA-11, ACF2, SDSF
  • Experience with data modeling and database design methodologies
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge on how to support very large databases with heavy on-line and batch activities
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail
