Network Engineer II - Backbone Networking

The Position

The Backbone team manages all connectivity between Twitter's data centers, Point of Presences and our cloud providers. 

  • You will work with customers to understand their requirements and design qualified, simple and repeatable networks that can be automated easily in the future for deployment, scaling and operating.
  • You will help troubleshoot complex issues, mitigating first and then deep diving into data to root cause and put mechanisms in place to stop reoccurrences. You will be participating in a 8x7 on-call rotation in the team.
  • You will help scale the backbone via hardware refresh, transport circuits or new PoP deployments. This enables our internal and external customers to use more data rich environments while expanding the Twitter network to new countries enhancing the experience for our users to start and join conversations.
  • You will help in cloud networking tasks for troubleshooting and provisioning VPC capacity.
  • Forward thinking candidates will have high impact here as we look to streamline our processes, automate repeatable tasks and define new architecture that can support Twitter's growth.

Qualifications

  • 4 - 5 years of deep understanding and hands-on experience with routing protocols and configuration, specifically ISIS, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, RSVP-TE
  • Understanding of transit relationships and Internet connectivity
  • Working knowledge of large backbone and data center networks
  • Detailed documentation and verbal skills
  • Python, DWDM, GCP and AWS knowledge appreciated
