ENGINEERING DESIGN MANAGER

Spring Engineering have an opening for a highly experienced Engineering Design Manager to join our prestigious Client's organisation based in Dublin.

The successful applicant be required to support Power Generation projects and will be responsible for the Design and Project Engineering accountabilities from concept design, through to construction/commissioning and operation. Project scale is generally @ 100 MW.

Ideally candidates will have gained similar experience in energy industry however skills and relevant knowledge may also have been gained by candidate experience provided to COMAH Sites, Oil and Gas plants or within marine industry - it is key that applicants have comprehensive knowledge of power generation technologies and technical factors that are required to be considered through all stages of construction and operation.

Candidates should hold a relevant degree (or equivalent) and will be Chartered.


Core Duties:

  • Concept and Detailed Engineering:
    Overall accountability for Project Engineering & Design from development through to operation Manage the delivery of FEED assessments, concept design development and appraisal and technical elements of consent applications Responsible for ensuring designs are compliant with technical specifications, all relevant regulations, codes, standards and legal requirements Responsible for leading and managing the engineering design team, including management of Engineering and design consultancies Overall responsibility for the production and review of technical documentation on the project drawing in specialist support as required to ensure construction, operations and regulatory risks are effectively managed. Quality and assurance reviews including HAZOPS, constructability & maintainability reviews Project Supervisor Design Process and lead a design risk approach to remove and mitigate risk on the project.
  • Project Management & Delivery
    Overall responsibility for the delivery of Health and Safety Plans, Quality Plans, Project Execution Plans, Project Lead on the production of sub-contractor scope of works and equipment specifications Technical bid management, coordination and evaluation Development of project costings;
  • Operations Phase:
    Act as a technical expert to support any technical issues arising during the operation of the equipment, including management of warranty claims and resolution of defects
  • Health & Safety:
    Responsible for ensuring technical designs adhere all relevant health, safety, environmental & associated legal requirements. Understanding of the role of the Project Supervisor Design Process and lead a design risk approach to remove and mitigate risk on the project. Responsible for creating a proactive culture of continuous improvement around health and safety integrating high performance in design & engineering. Support development of H&S file.
  • Collaboration - Capable of building close, constructive and challenging working relationships across different work functions
  • Technology - comprehensive understanding of power generation technologies and technical factors to consider during construction and operation, including legally required standards and best practice standards
  • Engineering - knowledge and experience working with high-hazard systems, including high pressure systems, HV installations, ATEX etc…
  • Negotiation - ability to negotiate with stakeholders, suppliers and landowners
  • Stakeholder management - proven ability to manage internal and external stakeholders including local communities, planning authorities and political leaders. Deal confidently with senior management
  • Consents - understanding of Irish planning and environmental regulations
  • Grid & gas connections - experience working with Eirgrid and Gas Networks Ireland (preferred) for obtaining and executing electrical and gas connection agreements; knowledge of transmission and distribution network codes and gas networks code of operations
  • A good appreciation of UK and international power markets would be beneficial
  • Ability to assimilate complex and detailed technical information and distil down into key implications
  • Strong people skills with the ability to work individually or as part of a multi-disciplinary team
