As a member of the DevOps team, you will be responsible for the process and automation that enables the smooth functioning of our staging and production environments, including all of our applications, infrastructural components such as databases, cache servers, queueing services, and network security. You will serve both Toast's customers and Toast's software engineering requirements.

  • Build new automation to expand and maintain our AWS hosting infrastructure
  • Create developer tools in support of a rapidly growing company
  • Use your familiarity with DevOps methodologies and practices to foster a culture of quality while facilitating developer velocitys for today while investing in experiences that will power their restaurant of the future. 

Your mission is to drive architecture and technical strategy for Toast's FinTech line of business. You will be the most senior technologist in this line of business, accountable for a payments platform processing many tens of billions of dollars per year. This is a mission-critical system on which our restaurant's rely for their livelihood, so reliability and scalability are paramount. Beyond core payment processing, your scope will also include Toast's rapidly expanding FinTech product suite, including Toast Capital and other significant products under active development. This position is part of the FinTech leadership team. It does not require people management.

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Develop and drive an architectural vision to support the continued aggressive growth of Toast and our FinTech product suite
  • Be an active participant and the authoritative technical voice in FinTech product strategy discussions
  • Partner with the FinTech VP of Engineering and VP of Product to successfully deliver FinTech products from design to production
  • Work closely with Toast's CTO, Chief Architect and technical leads for the 3 other Toast LOBs to advance the overall architecture at Toast, finding the right mix between centralized consistency and LOB independence
  • Build relationships with and work with key Toast technology partners such as credit card acquirers
  • Mentor and develop technical leadership across FinTech
  • Experience maintaining large-scale infrastructure, supporting production workloads, and configuration management (especially Ansible and Terraform).
  • Experience building automation tooling in a modern programming language (preferably Python or Go).
  • You believe internal tools deserve unit tests.
  • Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL and Aurora PostgreSQL a plus). Experience with Linux (Ubuntu and Amazon Linux).
  • Substantial experience with version control software and modern CI/CD tools.
  • Prior experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker highly preferred) and familiarity with Cloud deployment workflows and cloud IaaS providers (preferably AWS).
