We are looking for a talented AI Researcher to be part of the Video AI team at the Huawei Ireland Research Centre. The candidate will be part of a team applying Computer Vision and Machine Learning technologies to expand the capabilities of our consumer product portfolio.

The candidate will be part of a project that seeks to build innovative features for an industry-leading consumer-focused video-editing platform for Huawei mobile devices. This will leverage both cloud and edge AI computing resources as appropriate to optimise the user experience.

The candidate will work within an international and fast-paced team of expert researchers and engineers, working on deeply technical problems in direct collaboration with leading international academics in the field.

This position would suit a recent full-time PhD graduate who is interested in pursuing a career in commercial R&D or someone with significant relevant industrial R&D experience. We are particularly interested in candidates who have an interest in image translation technology and in particular the use of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs).

Key Opportunities Include:

• Design, implement, analyse and deploy computer vision and deep learning algorithms for Huawei's video AI products.
• Identify key developments and trends in the research, in the video analysis and video generation fields as well as in the wider machine learning field. Communicate these findings clearly and informatively to colleagues and stakeholders.
• Propose technical solutions to challenges and drive novel improvements to current AI algorithms according to business requirements and scope. Devise a technical implementation plan based on these proposals and take responsibility for ensuring that it is successful and converted into production.
• Maintain communication with academia and industry partners, with a view to analysing potential benefits to product goals from collaboration.
• Cooperate with management and stakeholders to fulfil product specifications and documentation, while continuously increasing the overall technical competitiveness of Huawei video AI products.

Skills & Experience – Required

• MSc. or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Machine Learning or related fields or equivalent industrial research experience. Applicants for a senior researcher role will be required to have significant post-graduation research experience in industry or academia.
• Excellent programming skills and knowledge of relevant programming languages for R&D (eg. C++, Python, Matlab). Familiarity with at least one machine learning framework (Pytorch, Tensorflow etc.)
• Excellent written and communication skills. The candidate must also be capable of working as part of a team.
• Publications in top-level conferences and journals or relevant patent activity.

Skills and Experience – Desired

Candidates should have some experience in at least one of the topics listed below.

• Video processing: Image translation (paired and unpaired), optical flow, video quality assessment, image/video enhancement, image/video editing and rendering, and others.
• Video intelligence and analytics: Object recognition, object detection & tracking, motion detection, segmentation, and others.
• Deep Learning and Machine Learning: Supervised/Unsupervised Learning, CNNs and GANs in particular.
