Application Manager

The Application Manager will liaise with internal (business user groups, infrastructure support, information security and other) and external (3rd party provider representatives) stakeholders; participating in forming the future of the external service and relationship, representing technology in initiatives, ensuring compliance with Citi's standards. Integrates subject matter and industry expertise.

Requires understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the function and overall business. Evaluates moderately complex and variable issues with potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives using multiple sources of information. Requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required. Regularly assumes informal/formal leadership role to meet challenges.

Responsibilities:

The Applications Manager provides technical and business expertise for various organization stakeholders. This includes driving development, maintenance, stability, efficiency and effectiveness improvements to help the business succeed.

  • Manages applications portfolio that have completed the development stage focusing on stability, quality and functionality against service level expectations.
  • Identifies ways to maximize the potential of the applications used
  • Work closely with 3rd party providers enabling them to provide value to Citi and ensuring their adherence to our values, policies and standards.
  • Partner with and support business development and user groups to identify opportunities, reduce risk and help value delivery by the applications.
  • Formulates and defines scope and objectives for complex application enhancements and problem resolution
  • Participate and drive initiatives involving changes in the functionality and service by the applications working closely with business development, internal technology and 3rd party stakeholders.
  • Participate in application changes and engages in post implementation analysis to ensure successful system design and functionality. Considers implications of the application of technology to the current environment.
  • Assess and track  risk and impact of production issues and escalate to business and technology management in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and develops application contingency planning to ensure availability to users.
  • Partners with appropriate internal and external development and production support areas to prioritize bug fixes and support tooling requirements.
  • Identifies risks, vulnerabilities and security issues; communicates impact.
  • Ensures essential procedures are followed and helps to define operating standards and processes.
  • Active involvement in and ownership of Project items, covering Stability, Efficiency, and Effectiveness initiatives.
  • Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
  • 2-5 years experience in an Application Management or Application Support role.
  • Advanced execution capabilities and ability to adjust quickly to changes and re-prioritization
  • Effective written and verbal communications including ability to explain technical issues in simple terms that non-IT staff can understand.

  • Knowledge/ experience of problem Management Tools.

  • Effectively share information with other support team members and with other technology teams

  • Ability to communicate appropriately to relevant stakeholders
  • Ability and experience in working with and managing delivery of external service providers
  • Good understanding of Information Security, vendor management and compliance domains
  • Ability to work with virtual team and in matrix structures
  • Domain knowledge or experience in the payment card industry is beneficial.
