2021 Research Intern - AI for Digital Safety

Huawei Ireland Research Centre (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognized technology leader and a global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) solutions. To achieve this we are building an industry-recognized multi-discipline Research Centre of experts with focus on medium-term to long-term issues. The IRC will work closely with an open innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.

Huawei Consumer Business Group. The IRC work closely with the Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) which covers smartphones, PC and tablets, wearables, mobile broadband device, family device and device cloud service, and is the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Huawei CBG is dedicated to delivering the latest technologies to consumers and sharing the happiness of technological advances with more people around the world. In this role, you will have the chance to work on project that matters to the lives of millions of people, protecting their digital experience from abuse/non-safe digital contents. You will also drive the success of a Machine Learning project from scratch to its completion, i.e., from dataset acquisition, model building, model evaluation, and collaborate with the business units to see your models deployed live.

  • Work with unstructured data, either text or images
  • Dataset acquisition
  • State of the art investigation
  • Build models with novelty, applicability, and practicality in mind
  • Model evaluation and iteration
  • Contribute to team operations by improving our internal tools
  • Putting our AI models into a good use by building a web app to serve the model
  • Write documentation
  • Passionate about data and machine learning
  • Software engineering background, e.g., you have a Computer Science background, or software engineering working experience
  • Knowledge of NLP (especially in text classification and multilingual models) and/or Computer Vision and dealing with imbalance classes
  • Able to work independently and as a team, and drive a project from its inception to the finish line on time
