Systems Analyst

At BearingPoint, our systems analysts are involved in all aspects of the design of IT based solutions to improve business processing efficiency and lead to increased productivity. Our systems analysts work closely with client representatives and they assess and document existing and required business processing models and data flows, discuss and agree their findings with the business owners and design an appropriate solution. They act as the liaison between the business owners and the development team involved in the delivery project.

 

The role

The role of the systems analyst is to work with the client to understand the business goals and priorities, and to formulate solutions with the support of the developers to meet these goals. Throughout the project’s lifecycle the systems analyst acts as a liaison between the client and the development team. The systems analyst is a key role in the team and your job is to convey the solution vision and ensure that the client goals and priorities are understood.

 

You will work across industries and capabilities as your career progresses to become a specialist.

 

Typical activities for a Systems Analyst include:

  • Work as an integral part of the delivery teams in either an internal or client-facing role
  • Assist the Lead Systems Analyst or Project Manager in:
  • Organising and facilitating Requirements Workshops and Planning Games. Develop skills in other requirements gathering exercises (e.g. customer interviews, process modelling, root cause analysis, decision analysis, etc.)
  • Documenting requirements and formulating solution design
  • Developing training materials and delivering training
  • Work in various project delivery settings (Waterfall, Agile, etc.)
  • Work with developers to design the prototype of the proposed solution
  • Develop experience in problem analysis and resolution
  • Develop strong relationships with team members and peers
  • Provide support for the development of quality deliverables
  • Provide operational support to projects as needed
  • Support business development and proposal efforts by gathering general proposal content and/or supporting the development of cost proposals
  • Support, and may contribute directly to, engagement financial activities
  • Manage own time and expenses involved in work
  • Support own Performance Management and Continuous Professional Development Process (goals, reviews, engagement reviews, career development)
  • May serve as a Peer Advisor for newly hired Systems Analyst(s)
  • Contribute to the System Analysts competency group to promote knowledge-sharing and collaboration with colleagues

You should possess:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role as a business or systems analyst on large systems integration projects
  • Third level qualification in Technology/Business
  • Experience documenting user stories and business requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and language skills in the English language (presenting, documenting, workshopping)
  • Management & co-ordination, planning skills
  • Experience estimating effort/duration in assessing business requirements
  • Experience in the preparation of system documentation
  • Experience as a functional tester
  • Experience with Microsoft Test Manager or similar
  • Experience developing test plans and test scripts
  • Experience writing and executing test suites and scripts
  • Good interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to engage with all project stakeholders to define and get agreement and achieve closure on business and technical requirements of projects
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities
  • Proven ability to be flexible and work hard, both independently and in a team environment, with changing priorities
  • You are results focused, have a strong attention to detail and continually strive to develop new skills and knowledge
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly and work across industries
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with client staff and BearingPoint colleagues
