Senior Risk Officer

The Senior Risk Officer for MIM Europe will report directly to the US-based Head of Portfolio & Risk Analytics. The Portfolio & Risk Analytics team is an independent function within MIM that identifies, monitors and oversees investment risks in institutional client accounts and funds across the MIM platform. The team seeks to enhance the portfolio construction process through ex-ante and ex-post risk report monitoring of aggregated exposures to market risks to ensure that client accounts and funds reflect the intended positioning of the Portfolio Management team and is appropriate for the strategy.

 

The role will hold the regulatory responsibility of the Central Bank of Ireland (“CBI”) PCF 14 – Head of Risk and PCF 39C – Designated Person for Fund Risk Management and will be responsible for leading the risk program for MIM Europe. The successful candidate will ensure that adequate risk management systems, reports and procedures are in place to effectively identify, monitor and manage risks relating to the management of MIM Europe and its client accounts and funds in accordance with the various requirements of the CBI, AIFMD, UCITS and MiFID.

 

The Senior Risk Officer will need to offer credible challenge, escalation of issues and reporting, as appropriate, working closely with the Investments team and functional peers in Risk, Legal, and Internal Audit throughout Europe and the US to implement controls and guidelines while ensuring compliance with global and regional policies, procedures and standards, laws, rules, and regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Portfolio & Risk Analytics team’s mission of identifying, measuring and monitoring quantitative portfolio risk measurements to ensure that the Head of Portfolio & Risk Analytics, the CEO of MIM Europe and other senior members of the MIM team are well informed of the risks taken on behalf of clients
  • Generate reports and monitor the risk profiles of each client account and fund to ensure they remain consistent with risk limits and the expected risk profile as per their governing documents; liaise with fund service providers and portfolio management staff to ensure issues are identified and resolved
  • Enhance existing reporting and develop new tools to better understand and communicate portfolio risks
  • Communicate investment risk insights through impactful presentations with members of the risk and investment team
  • Produce the regulatory packs and provide regular reports and analysis to MIM Europe’s CEO and the Board
  • Oversee operational risk to ensure that all applicable risks to the client accounts, funds and the company are identified, monitored and managed, including outsourced services, IT incidents, fraud and customer complaints
  • Develop strong links with the US and UK risk teams to align MIM Europe’s risk culture to the Group’s and to ensure that all Group risk policies and procedures are appropriately adopted
  • Fulfil the regulatory requirements of the roles as defined by the CBI, i.e. PCF 14 and PCF 39C
  • Assist with responses to RFPs for assigned asset classes as needed, and serve as the representative for Portfolio and Risk Analytics in meetings with current and potential clients
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in investment markets, preferably with a CBI authorised investment management firm, preferably with strong knowledge of fixed income
  • Knowledge of UCITS, AIFMD and MiFID and the responsibilities of Designated Persons of a Super ManCo
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative subject area
  • Ability to prioritize, manage and execute on multiple projects in a high performance, collaborative environment
  • Ability to build trusted internal relationships, listen to other people and be confident communicating and presenting to the Board and external stakeholders
  • Strong experience in reporting, data analysis and coding in Excel required; experience with Bloomberg and BlackRock Aladdin
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience in multiple fixed income asset classes (public fixed income, private placements and/or real estate)
  • Experience working with colleagues in different countries
  • Experience in VBA, SQL and/or Python a plus
