Head of Data and Analytics

To deliver this strategy we must deeply understand our customers, consumers and all our internal business functions and use data across Musgrave to delivery optimal outcomes.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Data and Analytics to join our Insight and Innovation team.  As Head of Data and Analytics you will be responsible for the development and delivery of the new Musgrave Data Strategy. This strategy is designed to ultimately make Musgrave a data driven and customer centric organisation and create new revenue streams for Musgrave by unlocking the potential in our data.

You will also be responsible for the development of the appropriate data governance framework and operating model for all data within Musgrave.  Included in the scope of this data governance framework is our overall data strategy, our data governance model, data architecture (in conjunction with the IT engineering function), data policies, data standards and data management.

You will be responsible for the establishment of this new operating model, which is planned to be a hub (central governance/data science team) and spoke model, resourcing it with the right skills/capabilities and delivering value from the outset using modern data science/analytics techniques and tools.

You will lead the delivery of an upskilling and culture change programme that enhances the use of and value place on data throughout Musgrave with the ultimate aim of Musgrave being truly data driven.

The scope of the role also includes the delivery of the data monetisation strategy whereby we build an insight/analytics capability that we can then deliver new revenue for Musgrave from suppliers and third parties.

The key deliverables of this role are

  • Develop and deliver the Musgrave Data strategy.
  • Build the appropriate operating model across Musgrave to deliver this strategy by implementing a hub and spoke model. Manage the hub and build the spokes close to key decision makers in trading, logistics, loyalty, finance, supply chain etc.
  • Build the analytics capability across Musgrave and empower and upskill all teams to value, use and make better decisions, automations and optimisations through the use of data.
  • Build the data governance model and manage the five characteristics of data quality, accuracy, completeness, reliability, relevance, and timeliness.
  • Build the data monetisation strategy, working with the Head of Innovation who will lead the media solutions strategy and achieve targets for third party income for this service.
  • Transform our culture to become more data driven, more customer centric.
  • Enable the delivery of our personalisation strategy through the use of data.
  • Recruit, retain and motivate a team of data scientists and engineers to deliver significant value from data projects and deliver savings from optimisation/automation of key data-driven processes/reporting
  • Be an agent for change and transformation in the data area – Working closely with the executive, management teams and senior resources to build a positive story and advocacy for the use of data to deliver world class customer experiences every day.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

The successful candidate will have/be:

  • 5-8 years progressive experience in leadership roles in Data and Analytics - ideally in a B2C organization or working with B2C clients, having established teams/operating models and delivered transformation programmes in the area of data/analytics
  • Track record as a strategic leader who establishes relationships quickly, has a collaborative approach and influences
  • Track record in delivering transformation projects, working cross functionally
  • Experience of delivering high quality results in fast paced and complex business environments
  • Track record of leading data and analytics projects and delivering successful commercial outcomes
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of building commercial models, business cases and data driven insights to ensure robust investment decisions
  • Familiarity with big structured and unstructured data solutions like Hadoop, Map Reduce etc.
  • Familiarity with enterprise BI solutions
  • Familiarity with data modelling and visualization techniques
  • Familiarity with master/meta data management solutions
  • Broad strategic thinking with the ability to see the bigger picture
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills with the ability to interact and influence effectively at all levels across the business and to get things done
  • Ability to leverage multiple sources of data to deliver clear insight - including digital, loyalty and store level data
  • Strong people management and team leadership skills and the ability to lead technically strong people by example; promote and develop a strong team approach and create an energy and culture for data driven decision making
  • Excellent communication skills – can take complex strategies and analytics outputs and turn it into clear, actionable, compelling insight
