Data Scientist - Analytics

Due to our continued growth, Flipdish is seeking an experienced Data Scientist. This person will join the centralised Analytics team with the opportunity to supercharge our growth in 2021 and beyond by providing actionable insights to teams across the whole company.

The successful candidate for this role will be looking for an exciting new challenge in a hyper-growth environment. You should have a passion for building and developing business relationships and be willing to take on new challenges and input to the company’s growth.

This will be the first Data Scientist role at Flipdish. It is a generalist data role requiring a broad skillset; it is not a specialist role focused on modelling or prediction problems. The ideal candidate would not be bound by specific functions of a data analyst/scientist/engineer/other but will instead be comfortable and have interest in working across these categories; open to solving problems with data in whatever way necessary to fulfil the needs of the company to help us achieves our goals.

  • Perform analyses on large data sets to extract actionable insights which can inform strategy for entire orgs.
  • Partner with multiple stakeholder teams across marketing, product, engineering, sales and finance to identify analytics opportunities and advise on best practices relating to data.
  • Work closely with the analytics lead to support the business in making key strategic decisions across all departments.
  • Understand behaviour of our clients and end-users, identify new opportunities to move key metrics, build models for user behaviour, and run experiments to determine the value of new or existing products.
  • Define KPIs and create self-service dashboards for internal teams to easily access the information they need.
  • Communicate data insights and recommendations to non-technical audiences through clear writing, visualisations and narratives. Insights and research will always be reproducible and easily digested (dashboards, notebooks etc).

Minimum qualifications

  • 2+ years experience helping teams make impactful decisions with data.
  • Ability to identify analytics opportunities, initiate projects and drive them to completion with minimal guidance.
  • Expert at querying large databases and writing advanced and efficient SQL.
  • Experience with data visualisation and BI tools (Looker, Tableau, etc).
  • Strong statistical programming ability in Python, R, or any similar language.
  • Strong understanding of experimentation and statistical analysis.
  • Comfortable independently answering open-ended questions (Examples: How should we increase ARPU? Which markets should we enter next? Are we using the best pricing model?).

Desirable

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics or other technical field.
  • Experience designing, monitoring and analysing A/B tests and implementing new frameworks for running them.
  • Experience with machine learning applications in a professional setting, particularly clustering techniques, regression and feature engineering.
  • Familiarity with database design and data engineering concepts.
  • Experience working in data roles at technology companies or high growth start ups.
