Business Analyst

The purpose of this role is to support Cornmarket’s General Insurance Division in making technological & process improvements by defining their problem statements and subsequent business requirements for projects the Division, servicing over 70k policyholders. 

The successful candidate will ensure that the processes, procedures, systems, and structures that are in place are the most effective and efficient to enable the General Insurance Division to achieve its core objectives. Projects will range in size from large strategic programmes to small enhancements and data changes.

 

The compilation of requirements will require the role holder to work with stakeholders to identify and understand their needs and concerns and understand the environment in which they work. It requires the role holder to be curious, inquisitive and have strong documentation skills. The Business Analyst will also need to understand the existing business process and IT domains, whilst constantly looking at new potential solutions.

 

Accountabilities of the Role

  • Building and maintaining a network of relationships will be critical to the success of this role, particularly with key internal stakeholders across various internal departments such as IT, Compliance, Marketing and with external partners where applicable such as insurers and 3 party service providers
  • Work with the General Insurance Division to agree and define business needs / problem statements and subsequently translate them into application and operational requirements
  • Facilitate and drive meaning full discovery sessions with the business unit to ensure business logic and rationale for decisions are appropriately tested
  • Query the databases used in the General Insurance Division where required (requires SQL query knowledge) and provide recommendations based on findings and analysis
  • Maintain and develop a keen awareness of key project risks from the outset of all change activities, ensuring appropriate communication at the earliest opportunity
  • Evaluate information from multiple sources and help distinguish user requests from user needs to determine the most appropriate inputs to the business requirements
  • Produce clear and concise workflow documents and requirements to drive balanced solutions that consider people, process, and technology components
  • Act as the primary business representative when interfacing with technology and change teams.
  • Manage the requirements agreement process which will involve change control, storing requirements, tracing related requirements, and maintaining them for re-use
  • Assist in all stage of the sign-off process, particularly in facilitating signatory queries and providing process walkthroughs where necessary
  • Assist with the documentation, clarification, and agreement of the DPIAs (Data Protection Impact Assessment) where required
  • Assist in delivery of key stage-gate and stakeholder updates and presentations, clearly and concisely articulating the key points
  • Full responsibility for test and UAT delivery including the analysis, planning, design, resourcing, and tester support to ensure solutions deployed are of appropriate quality
  • Work with the business to ensure adoption of new/changed processes, by aiding in the preparation / delivery of training where required
  • Measure impact of solutions on the business, using analytical tools on the new/changed process to measure impact value on before/after process change are consistently being met
  • To maintain commercial awareness relevant to this role and an understanding of broader technology solutions in the Irish General Insurance market
  • To comply with risk control and regulatory requirements that is relevant to this role and work with the business to ensure regulatory requirements are met

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Professional qualification in Business Analysis is preferable
  • Experience in documenting detailed, high quality business requirements
  • Comfortable querying and analysing large volumes of data to deduce appropriate recommendations or query anomalies in business logic.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail is essential
  • Proven ability to build relationships, network and influence within an organisation
  • Strong written and verbal skills and ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business stakeholders and to translate business requirements for technical developers
  • Strong business process definition capabilities, including the ability to capture process flows visually according to standard methodologies
  • Strong partnering skills and ability to work within a collaborative team environment
  • An interest in developing project management skills in line with the company project methodology
  • Knowledge of risk control & regulatory environment relevant for the role
