WHAT TO EXPECT

We are seeking a Senior ML Engineer for an opportunity to join a household name automotive brand that's strengthening its Engineering department in data-driven areas. You will be working on state-of-the-art machine learning projects for the stakeholders across Engineering department. You’ll be exposed to a wealth of different topics, data-types and projects as diverse as NLP, computer vision, clustering, timeseries, Explainable AI and bespoke model development.

The main purpose of this role is to support the delivery of integrated sub systems elements, which may be physical components, a set of related components or software into vehicle programmes. The individual will work with lead engineers to ensure that valid content is specified, manage specific elements of the supplier delivery against this specification and arrange verification activity to support the vehicle program which meets the programme requirements for quality, cost and time.

The ideal candidate knows that visualization is not pretty pictures or plotting. Instead they are well aware of what what InfoViz, SciViz and visual encoding means; have understanding of theoretical basis of information visualization and are pursuing visualization as specialization.

  • Conceptualize, build and help maintain state-of-the-art ML/AI systems in the team
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in the field of machine learning
  • Provide supervision, training and mentoring opportunities for less experienced team members
  • Lead complex technical projects end-to-end
  • Participate in outreach events across business and beyond (talks, training seminars, etc.)
  • Engage with stakeholders and communicate complex things simply
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested

Essential:

  • Degree in a quantitative discipline (Master’s, PhD or comparable level of experiences can be an asset)
  • Previous experience in a similar role(s)
  • Excellent knowledge in at least one core area of expertise, good in several others and broad knowledge of key concerns in ML, AI and related areas
  • Experience using Python (or R) and optionally another language (perhaps related to area(s) of your specialization) - high-level languages are preferred
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, caret, dask (or similar)
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux/*nix family of OSes
  • Experience having deployed something that is used by your customers
  • You think, work and optimize at scale and on cloud (we use GCP and AWS, but on-prem/HPC and experiences from other cloud vendors are valued)
  • To be comfortable with ambiguity and prepared to think and communicate at high levels of abstraction - technically and conceptually
  • Good written and verbal communication and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent ability to differentiate between the conceptual and the technical

Desirable:

  • We're an engineering department - experience / strong interest in XAI/model interpretability is valuable
  • Experience adopting the Agile software development methodology
  • Good knowledge of SQL for big-data applications
