What's the opportunity? 🤔

We’re looking for a super smart, ambitious, hardworking, humble and fun individual to join our Infrastructure Services Group as a Systems Engineer!

Our group mission is to ensure stability and enable growth of the business. We do this by strengthening the foundations of the Intercom platform with a scalable and highly-available infrastructure solution built on AWS, providing lightning-fast CI/CD, building toil-reducing Infrastructure as Code services, and taking ownership of key operational excellence initiatives.

Intercom continues to grow - joining as a Systems Engineer will give you a mission to build, optimize and grow infrastructure that scales with our customer demand. We highly value growth and learning, and you’ll get to work on company-wide initiatives to accelerate your growth even further!

What will I be doing? 🚀

These are some of the things that a Systems Engineer will do:

  • Building and contributing to the future growth of our AWS environment.
  • Develop and enhance our Infrastructure as Code processes.
  • Providing Intercom with lightning-fast CI/CD processes - after all, shipping is our heartbeat!
  • Participate in office-hours oncall, handing off to our voluntary out-of-hours oncall team after office-hours.
  • Apply SRE processes to reduce toil, enhance automation and apply our “zero-tolerance” approach to alarms and alerts in order to drive down pager pain.
  • Working with cross-functional teams in Engineering to provide infrastructure services support in order to build the next generation of Intercom services.
  • In essence - you will build solutions to business problems. This is not a passive, response-only team of oncall engineers - we create the vision of the future for Infrastructure in Intercom, and then build it.

What skills do I need? 📖

To be a good fit, you should have:

  • B.Sc in Computing or Computer Science, or similar.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Some experience operating highly available, large-scale distributed systems.
  • Practical experience and proficiency with a high level programming language
  • A strong understanding of core internet technologies (e.g. TCP/IP, Web Servers).
  • Familiarity with core Amazon Web Services products.
  • Linux systems engineering skills.

Bonus skills & attributes 🙌

Bonus Skills include:

  • Experience building and scaling a SaaS solution on Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience with building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code providers - we use Terraform.
