Who we're looking for

We are looking for software engineers to work on a new team at Zendesk which will focus on implementing a Bring Your Own Key/Hold Your Own Key (BYOK/HYOK) ability for Zendesk customers. This is a brand new team at Zendesk which will own engineering solutions to meet new and evolving EU data privacy laws. We are hiring multiple engineers at all levels for this team and are open to hiring remotely in Europe.

What you’ll be doing

Work on a new opportunity to create and implement an end to end encryption solution at Zendesk while integrating existing endpoints and products.

In partnership with the Sr Engineering Manager and Principal Product manager, take the lead on technical design discussions and propose innovative solutions.

Build POCs to test candidate technologies and make informed decisions.

Actively participate in full-stack coding, reviewing pull requests and testing.

Ensure scalability, performance, maintainability and security of the technical platform.

Proactively implement changes to improve system reliability, stability and performance, and also foster standard methodologies, high quality code, and appropriate test coverage among other technical contributors.

We're looking for engineers who are not afraid of touching every layer of our technical stack.

What you bring to the role:

You’re tenacious, driven, and have a passion for learning, love to collaborate and have meaningful interactions with everyone you meet. You believe that online real-time communication fosters trust, and delivers valuable benefits to customer engagement. You want to build code to make these experiences even better.

Have a proven record in Software Engineering with strong capabilities in any of the major web-programming languages (Java, Ruby, Go, Scala).

Are experienced in building scalable, distributed systems

Proven understanding of data structures and algorithms

Personal projects, collaboration with open-source community or active learning initiatives would be a good sign of your passion to learn and tackle problems

Preferred requirements:

We’d love to hear from you if you have prior experience in this field. It's not needed but any prior experience would be a phenomenal sign!

Prior experience in security or data privacy space

Familiarity with encryption generally and BYOK/HYOK specifically. relevancy, infra such as Elasticsearch, and information retrieval systems

Prior Ruby on Rails experience
