- Strong coding skills, and intermediate skills in software architecture
- Ability to effectively lead or collaborate on code projects with many contributors
- Ability to own and operate a mission-critical service, and appropriately respond to incidents and prioritization requests thereof
- Ability to mentor and teach other engineers
- Well-developed vision for a software approach to scalable infrastructure services
- Good grasp of virtualization and containerization technologies, and their appropriate application
- Familiarity with a declarative, goal-seeking approach to automation, or popular tools exemplifying this such as Terraform, Puppet, CFEngine
- Familiarity with Linux-based systems and Internet protocols such as DNS, SMTP, LDAP, etc.
- Has proficient oral and written communication and willingness to train other people.
