Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer in our Enterprise Clinical Integration and Interoperability (ECII) team you will take ownership of technical solutions that securely expose UnitedHealthcare’s clinical data to our partners and members via established industry standards.

ECII’s FHIR EXchange Layer (FLEX) software platform is growing and we are looking for a Software Engineer that will responsible for front and back-end web development. Ensuring new features are being built in a way that are aligned with the platform’s vision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior software developers
  • Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs
  • Maintain quality and ensure responsiveness of applications
  • Collaborate with the rest of the engineering team to design and launch new features
  • Maintain code integrity and organisation
  • Understanding and implementation of security and data protection
  • Experience developing in Java using Spring Framework (Boot, Core, MVC) with Spring Boot strongly preferred
  • Experience with front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ideally with frameworks such as Angular or React)
  • Proficiency with Object Oriented design and patterns
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with creating T-SQL queries in any mainstream database engine
  • Hands-on experience developing FHIR implementation of a client or server applications
  • Experience implementing solutions protecting clinical data covered by HIPAA and/or familiarity with clinical data coding systems and domains such as CPT, ICD, LOINC etc.
  • Familiar with claims or clinical data
  • Familiar with FHIR client or server implementation
