Senior Systems Engineer

This role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to join a new team that is in the very early days of expansion at our facility in Limerick. The cross functional R&D team will be accountable for full engineering ownership a very high profile platform in BD's portfolio.

Advances in connectivity, user workflows, detection accuracy mean that the install base for this platform has grown rapidly over the past year and is set to lead the fight globally against COVID-19. It will be at the forefront of discovery where there are future variant outbreaks. Meaning that the platform will be a key weapon in health authorities arsenal going forward and requires further development and enhancement to cater to new and exciting use cases.

This fast-paced team is required to be nimble and agile, if you desire the opportunity to have exposure and visibility across the full system incorporating electronics, software, optics, immunoassay and see where the solutions you develop have an direct and immediate impact on advancing the world of health this could be the role for you.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to management of product requirements and high-level design specifications under the direction of a supervising System Integrator. Works under general direction.
  • Assumes a technical contributor role and works closely with other functional groups, especially assay development and engineering. May provide guidance and work direction to lower project level developers.
  • Independently evaluates problems of moderate complexity and applies analytical/scientific principles to fulfill project and business objectives. Designs and performs development activity independently within defined parameters with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contact.
  • Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Ability to perform various analyses of automated systems including timing studies, control systems, que modeling, and critical parameter identification and management.
  • Collects, records, reports, interprets and analyzes data, presents results to cross functional colleagues and leaders.
  • Responsible for employing DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) and Technology Development best practices to manage technical risk and impart product robustness and reliability.
  • Contributes to system verification and validation activities.
  • Contributes to the transition from R&D to manufacturing and to system troubleshooting activities for products in the field.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. or M.S in Engineering or Sciences
  • Experience in the development of Lab or Industrial Automation equipment and instrumentation highly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Two years’ experience with in vitro diagnostic development, and troubleshooting desired.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated capability as member of a project team.
  • Demonstrated capability with requirement management, data acquisition, analysis and statistical methods.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic instrumentation such as fluorometers, spectrophotometers, incubation and liquid handling systems.
