The Future Networks function within the Chief Innovation and Planning Office is responsible for generating the first view of how the power system in Ireland and Northern Ireland will evolve out into the future. The time horizon for the team extends from the short term (e.g. assessing the impact of new connections onto the power system) to long term (e.g. development of a 2050 power system vision).

This is an excellent opportunity for an innovative, solution focussed, resilient and motivated individual to join our leadership team and play a key role in the transition to a low carbon energy future. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading complex projects and carrying out complex, high profile studies (energy economics and/or power systems analysis) to investigate and understand the evolution of the electricity system in Ireland and Northern Ireland out to 2050. You will deliver on a range of technical and commercial projects designed to achieve regulated targets & meet stakeholder needs in line with company requirements.  
We will look to you to continually improve how we use our range of system study tools and to analyse industry and market trends and determine their potential impact on the team / directorate, providing thought leadership and advocate industry best practices and principles.

You will be able to apply skills, knowledge and experience to effectively deliver on team’s objectives, overcoming new challenges and technical issues, whilst ensuring that appropriate project controls are in place having regard to budgets, schedule, quality, risk and activity monitoring.

  • You will have a university degree in engineering degree or equivalent, typically with 6+ years relevant experience with a holistic understanding of the power industry. 
  • You will have proven experience of managing strategic, power system analysis projects – overseeing the delivery of complex solutions and an ability to drive successful outcomes.
  • You will have the ability to lead and influence others to move towards a common vision or goal and be able to coach and develop high performance capabilities in a changing and dynamic environment. 
  • You will have experience carrying out power system modelling and analysis using software such as Plexos, PSS/E etc., with an awareness of energy targets and ambitions for decarbonisation of the energy sector.
