12 month fixed term contract role usually based in Carrigtwohill, Cork. Currently partially work remote

As part of the EUMDR team – this engineer will form part of a dynamic team to update the packaging design files to comply with the requirements of EUMDR.

This role will be based in Stryker’s Cork, Ireland facility with primary responsibilities of managing the Packaging Engineering Test Lab located at this site. This includes the following responsibilities:

  • Performing packaging environmental conditioning (temperature and humidity).
  • Performing packaging mechanical stress conditioning (drop testing, compression testing, vibration testing, high altitude testing).
  • Conducting medical device performance testing (bubble leak testing, dye penetration testing, seal strength testing, seal width testing, visual inspection).
  • All work to be done per Good Documentation Practices to ensure integrity of test data.
  • Manage SOPs/Work Instructions for all lab equipment. This includes revisions when necessary and regularly scheduled reviews.
  • Stay abreast of packaging testing related medical device standard revisions and potential impact to Stryker packaging testing.
  • Identify and procure new lab equipment as required. This includes equipment identification, obtaining quotes, and developing needed documentation and justification for capital expenditure approvals. Also includes performing IQ/OQ of new equipment and Test Method Validation.
  • Strong technical acumen. Understands technical principles behind test methods and can troubleshoot when issue arise.
  • Interface with the Global Joint Replacement Packaging Team and other team members.
  • Manage lab testing schedule and resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Model team values and demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the Packaging Team’s organizational vision, high degree of participation in problem solving and decision making both locally and globally.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering, science, or technical related discipline.
  • 2 years packaging or other engineering / Lab experience preferred an advantage
  • Strong communication skills with both internal and external agents.
  • Flexibility essential with strong project management awareness.
  • The individual should enjoy working in a dynamic and results motivated team.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • PC literate and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools are essential.
