Policy Domain Specialist, Misinformation

The Position

What You’ll Do

As a misinformation policy specialist, you’ll research, draft, and implement policies covering all aspects of misinformation and related issues impacting the integrity of conversations on Twitter — from deepfakes and synthetic media, to protecting the integrity of elections and civic processes, to combating false narratives on public health topics. For this role, we’re looking for someone who cares deeply about how misinformation manifests and propagates in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. 

You’ll work closely with colleagues in the Site Integrity and Safety Policy teams, as well as Twitter’s Product and Engineering organizations, to craft a holistic approach to misinformation-related issues across product, policy, investigations, and enforcement. You’ll also act as the primary Trust & Safety point of contact for high-level escalations involving misinformation and lead rapid response efforts by teams across the company to prevent the virality and proliferation of abuse on  Twitter around critical public events. 

Who You Are

  • You have a deep understanding of online safety, privacy, and freedom of expression, with specific experience in mis- and disinformation issues in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. 
  • You understand human rights frameworks and are passionate about the intersection between human rights and misinformation.
  • You are passionate about understanding and combating threats to online conversational health, and aren’t afraid of tackling high-impact problems at massive scale.
  • You are passionate about identity issues and freedom of expression
  • You have a proven track record of owning and successfully completing cross-functional projects from planning to implementation.
  • You have exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • You build and cultivate healthy relationships with cross-functional partners and keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
  • You are humble, curious, and a fast learner who brings positivity and a solution-focused attitude to all tasks.
  • You work well under pressure, and can promptly engage with new and complex problems to identify and implement solutions.
  • You effectively use data to make informed decisions
  • You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, and adapting to the needs and work styles of other teams and organizations.


 

  • 5+ years experience working on relevant issues (safety, security, and/or content policy), preferably at an internet or technology company.
  • Background in Open Source Intelligence a plus
  • BA/BS or equivalent professional experience.
  • Preferred: Fluency in additional languages across EMEA region
  • Preferred: Experience working with SQL and relational databases and advanced Microsoft  Excel or Google Sheets skills
