This role is based within Optum Insight as part of Data Science Services. Optum is the technology and services division of UnitedHealth Group, the leading international health insurer. The roles of the Analytics Engineering team within Data Science Services include, but are not limited to analysis, design, coding, engineering, testing, debugging, standards, methods, tools analysis, documentation, research and development, maintenance, new development, operations and delivery. We are now looking for an additional Lead Software Engineer to enhance our Software Engineering capacity to develop the analytics, analytic applications and analytic platforms in support of our business insights.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, code, test, document, and maintain high-quality and scalable Big Data and Analytic solutions
  • Research, evaluate, and deploy new tools, frameworks and patterns to build a sustainable Analytic platform
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement of existing solutions
  • Be innovative in solution design and development to meet the needs of the business
  • Define and develop APIs for integration with various data sources in the enterprise
  • Analyze and define customer requirements
  • Assist in defining product technical architecture 
  • Make accurate development effort estimates to assist management in project and resource planning 
  • Create prototypes, proof-of-concepts & design and code reviews 
  • Collaborate with management, quality assurance, architecture, and other development teams
  • Write technical documentation and participate in production support. 
  • Keep skills up to date through ongoing self-directed training 

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive hands-on Software Development experience.
  • Experience in developing applications in Azure
  • Experience in allocation and infrastructure services on at least one major cloud platform(Azure preferred)
  • Development experience with Python or Java
  • Experience in Kafka, streaming, NoSQL databases (Cassandra/HBase preferred), Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proficient with front-end languages including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Ability to work a portion of monthly work hours from our Dublin office is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Healthcare experience
