Lead IP & Security Engineer

About this role

You'll be joining an Operations team working on one of BT’s major customer accounts, supporting their MPLS core, ISP Services (Including security) and Datacentre IP infrastructure. The role will also encompass all implementation work carried out on customer network.

In addition you'll be responsible for supporting real time operational systems, providing leadership and guidance on resolving complex technical issues, owning operational processes and ensuring support is provided to meet service level standards. A key focus of the team is continuous improvement and learning of the existing and new technologies being deployed.

 

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Operational support of IP & Security network across all customer datacentres.
  • Manage and resolve network faults.
  • Liaise with Design team on new technical projects and be responsible for implementation.
  • Peer technical reviews of all designs before deployment into service.
  • Creation of Operational Manuals for new network implementation and support.
  • Cross-skilling of team members on deployed technical solutions.
  • Method of Procedure (MOP) creation for Operations lead projects.
  • Act as a key contributor and provide expert advice to the team and other groups on technical and operational issues.
  • The role will also include some on-call (1 week in 5) and overtime for planned Network changes.
  • CCNP or equivalent.
  • Experience troubleshooting network faults including security incidents.
  • MPLS and VXLAN network experience.
  • Experience with Firewalls (Checkpoint, Fortigate or Cisco ASA) and loadbalancing technologies.
  • Display innovative thinking by acting on own initiative to identify & resolve problems.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and have the capacity of taking on escalated issues from other team members.
  • Acts as a source of technical expertise to others.
  • Ability to lead and motivate cross functional teams to ensure delivery to cost, quality and time.
