HPC Field Technical Support Consultant

We are looking for a Field Technical Support Engineer to join Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) working onsite as part of HPE’s global High Performance Computing (HPC) team, supporting the LUMI system (Large Unified Modern Infrastructure) hosted at CSC (also known as Finnish IT center for science) in Kajaani, Finland. The EMEA HPC team you will join, consist of resident engineers, deployment and technical consultants for installation, and the Advanced Field Support Team of SME’s.

The core of the LUMI solution is an HPE Cray EX supercomputer and it will start its production operations in CSC’s data center in Kajaani. With LUMI’s world-class HPC capabilities and AI platform, companies across Europe will have a great opportunity to develop their R&D activities and boost innovation and competitiveness.

This opportunity is open to candidates all over Europe that show outstanding potential with:

  • Minimum qualification of a degree in a computer science or related discipline
  • Evidence of technology skills suitable to a career in High Performance Computing
  • Successful completion of selection process to verify both hardware and software skill capabilities
  • Full training and mentoring will take place to carefully develop your career in HPC
  • Successful candidates will be part of an onsite team responsible for performing hardware and software maintenance activities within strict Service Level Agreement (SLA) timelines.
  • Build and develop a trusted relationship with the customer and be seen as an aid to them running a successful service.

Knowledge and skills requirements:

  • Experience of Linux operating systems
  • Networking: PXE boot, DHCP, Routing and switching, InfiniBand / High Speed Networks
  • Hardware and Software troubleshooting skills
  • 3+ years of component level hardware replacement experience
  • Blade technology concepts / Cluster management support experience
  • Storage / File systems knowledge / experience

Nice-to-have

  • Lustre / Parallel Filesystems
  • System Management and Monitoring tools.
  • Bash / scripting experience

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, well organized and flexible. He or she must take an analytical approach to problem solving and will be fully committed to drive problems through to their conclusion. He or she needs to be a good team player and be committed to investigate and resolve complex problems as part of a wider distributed team.

Good communication skills, both verbal and in writing in English and the ability to stay calm and professional under pressure while working to strict deadlines is essential. Attention to details and excellent record keeping is required.

We are happy to consider European candidates who would be prepared to relocate to Finland for a couple of years. We will provide some relocation assistance to move to Finland.
