PayPal is seeking an enthusiastic DevOps Engineer to help us strengthen our world-class business. In this role you will embed with platform teams to migrate their workloads into PayPal’s secure cloud deployments. You will work across multiple public cloud service providers, collaborating closely with platform teams and other embedded cloud engineers to ensure success for our customers. You will automate everything you do, because you’ll be reusing and improving the capabilities you developed during your last project on your next.

PayPal is seeking an enthusiastic DevOps Engineer to help us strengthen our world-class business. In this role you will embed with platform teams to migrate their workloads into PayPal’s secure cloud deployments. You will work across multiple public cloud service providers, collaborating closely with platform teams and other embedded cloud engineers to ensure success for our customers.  You will automate everything you do, because you’ll be reusing and improving the capabilities you developed during your last project on your next. 

  • Promote a culture of automation, transparency, and accountability. 
  • Provision and operate cloud-based, immutable infrastructure. 
  • Codify and automate manual tasks to reduce toil. 
  • Assist with troubleshooting and triage efforts during incidents. 
  • Assist with development of root cause analysis and participate in postmortem exercises. 
  • Create, review, and improve documentation for tools and processes used in support of the infrastructure.
  • Experience and/or strong understanding of Puppet, Docker, Terraform, Packer, Ansible, and Jenkins. 
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and protocols for LAN and WAN (TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, BGP). 
  • Strong understanding of the OSI layering model, with a focus on Layer 7 protocols (HTTP/S, DNS, NFS, SMTP, SSH). 
  • Several years’ experience administering Linux systems in a 24x7 production environment. 
  • Scripting or coding experience with one or more languages (e.g., bash, python). 
  • Understand basic cryptography, TLS handshake protocol, and certificates. 
  • Participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation. 
  • Ability to trace and debug issues across the entire technology stack. 
  • Ongoing motivation to automate manual, repeatable tasks. 
  • Excellent communication, time management, prioritization, and context-switching skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up. 
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English. 
  • Able to work independently and responsibly in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. 

Desired Skills: 

  • Strong command of native cloud capabilities from at least one public cloud provider. 
  • Experience with cloud network / VPC provisioning 
  • Experience with cloud IAM integration 
  • Experience fulfilling PCI and other security oversight requirements. 

Education: 

  • B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent technical training and professional work experience
