Amazon Security Operations Center (SOC) System Engineer

Job summary
Amazon Security Operations Center is looking for a passionate and driven individual to join its systems engineering team to actively troubleshoot and ensure the operation of our physical access control system (PACS), automating where possible. As a system engineer, you will be responsible for the overall health of our service and provide excellent customer service to our partners. You will create availability and health metrics, monitor performance, perform regular system maintenance, and architect innovative solutions for running a PACS in a large distributed environment. You will automate routine tasks enabling the team to be quick and agile. You'll be looked to as an expert in system automation. You’ll work closely with internal customers to help define requirements and see those requirements through to delivery. You should enjoy digging deep to find answers, sometimes this will require reverse engineering existing solutions, a situation you thrive in.

The Amazon SOC is a 24/7/365 operation and shift work may be required to include nights and/or weekends, including occasional on-call support.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 5+ years’ experience
· 5+ years’ experience with Windows Server
· 3+ years’ experience with relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL,PostgreSQL)
· Ability to work first, second or third shift.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· 3+ years’ experience with a Physical Access Control system (Lenel, RedCloud, etc.)
· 3+ year scripting experience (PowerShell, Batch, Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.)
· 1+ Years’ experience with Linux systems administration and or development
· Windows server administration
· Experience in 24/7 online environment
· Experience using Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2, VPC, etc.)
· Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
· Proven ability to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues
· Proven experience creating documentation for production systems
· Proven experience creating end-user training and documentation
· TS/SCI with poly
· Exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
· Exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
· Experience installing, configuring, and interacting with Physical Access Control Systems (Lenel OnGuard, S2, C-Cure, etc.) software and hardware
· Familiarity with Amazon services and solutions
· Ability to independently collect, research, and analyze technical information from a variety of sources to solve problems, troubleshoot systems, and build solutions
· Experience engaging in project management, tracking timelines, and participating in planning and executing tasks within project milestones.
· Experience demonstrating the ability to produce reports for senior managers, internal departments, and external stakeholders regarding projects, risks, and initiatives
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
